BIT Wardha Celebrates World Environment Day with Tree Plantation Drive and Climate Change Campaign

June 5, 2024 – Bajaj Institute of Technology (BIT), Wardha, marked World Environment Day with a highly enthusiastic tree plantation drive and a climate change awareness campaign. The event was collaboratively organized by various BIT units, including the Energy Environment Cell, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit, and the Rotaract Club of BIT Wardha, in association with the Rotary Club of Gandhi City Wardha and the Energy Swaraj Foundation. It commenced at 9:30 am at the BIT campus and saw enthusiastic participation from a wide array of stakeholders.

The tree plantation drive drew significant involvement from the students of BIT, teaching and non-teaching staff, heads of various departments and members of the Rotary Club of Gandhi City Wardha. Dr. Narendra Kanhe, Principal of BIT Wardha, extended warm wishes for World Environment Day, setting a tone of commitment and urgency for the day’s activities. The event thus began with the dissemination of crucial message highlighting the urgent need for tree plantation and our collective responsibility towards environmental conservation. 60 plants of neem, gulmohar, tamarind, peepal etc. were planted.

Following the tree plantation, a letter writing campaign, #ActionForClimateChange, was conducted. Participants penned letters to the Honorable Prime Minister of India, advocating for stronger climate action. These letters were subsequently forwarded to the Energy Swaraj Foundation for delivery to the Prime Minister’s office.

The drive and campaign aimed to address pressing environmental issues such as pollution and global warming, underscoring the critical role of tree plantation in mitigating these challenges. Through their collective efforts, participants showcased their dedication to a greener future and environmental conservation.

Dr. Narendra Kanhe, Principal of BIT Wardha, remarked on the importance of such initiatives: “The establishment of a greener campus and active participation in climate action reflects our institution’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Today’s activities are a testament to the power of collaboration in tackling the environmental issues we face.”

Students of the Rotaract Club of BIT and NSS Unit of BIT worked hard to implement the event successfully. The successful celebration of World Environment Day at BIT Wardha thus aims to inspire ongoing environmental action and reinforce the message that everyone has a role to play in protecting our planet.
